Leveraging its collective
expertise to advance a common security framework and a rigorous methodology to
assess security in Industrial Internet Systems
AUSTIN, Texas – November 14, 2017 – Praetorian (https://praetstaging.wpengine.com), a leading provider of advanced cybersecurity
assessment and advisory services, today announced it has joined the Industrial
Internet Consortium® (IIC™), the world’s leading organization transforming
business and society by accelerating the adoption of the Industrial Internet of
Things (IIoT). This membership provides Praetorian opportunities to leverage
its vast Internet of Things (IoT) security expertise to advance industry
protocols and best practices at multiple levels of the entire IoT ecosystem.
“Innovation is
exploding as the next wave of technological progress transforms our world into
an increasingly smart and connected cyber-physical place, where billions
of new devices and sensors will be made even smarter by intelligence in
the cloud,” said Paul Jauregui, Vice President of Praetorian. “All of us
at Praetorian are excited to be working with new partners and industry groups
who see security as an enabler of next-wave innovation and a requisite for new
technologies to meet their full market potential.”
As a collective
of highly technical engineers and developers offering deep security
expertise, Praetorian provides end-to-end IoT security assessment and
advisory services—from chip to cloud—for today’s leading organizations,
including Microsoft, GE, Samsung, Whirlpool, and Hyundai. The firm’s solutions
provide coverage across technological domains, including embedded devices,
firmware, wireless communication protocols, web and mobile applications, cloud
services and APIs, and back-end network infrastructure. Acting as an extension
of its clients’ internal teams that offers deep security expertise, Praetorian is
uniquely positioned to spot gaps and anticipate shifts in IoT security trends
across its diverse customer list and industries served.
“Security is top
of mind for everyone in the IoT ecosystem,” said Dr. Richard Soley, Executive
Director, IIC. “We’re happy Praetorian joined the IIC and is sharing its expertise
with our members on IoT security projects.”
In 2016, Microsoft recognized Praetorian as a
“best-in-class” Internet of Things global auditing partner and a founding
member of its new Security
Program for Azure IoT. Through this partnership, Praetorian began
collaborating on the IIC’s Industrial Internet Security Maturity Model (SSM),
which provides an approach to building strategies for
the implementation of mature security practices that address the needs and
constraints of IIoT systems. As an IIC member, Praetorian will continue its support
of the consortium’s SSM, while contributing its collective expertise to advance
future IIoT security standards and best practices.
In addition to
its involvement with the IIC, Praetorian actively contributes to the OWASP
Application Security Verification Standard (ASVS) and is working to extend the software-centric
evaluation standard to cover hardware/embedded security control categories and
test cases that are critical components of IoT systems.
